An Azerbaijani appellate court on Thursday rejected an appeal filed by former prosecutor of Zardab district Rufat Safarov against his nine-year sentence passed by Lankaran Grave Crimes Court.
On 15 January 2016, Rufat Safarov, who is the son of the former spokesman for Azerbaijan’s defense ministry, Eldar Sabiroglu, was jailed for four months on bribe charges. On January 22, his sentence was commuted to house arrest.
On September 8, the Lankaran Grave Crimes Court sentenced Safarov to nine years in prison. Then, an appeal was filed against the court judgment.
