Baku. Etibar Mammadov – APA. The Supreme Court held a hearing on Friday on the cassation appeal filed by the imprisoned chairman of REAL Movement Ilgar Mammadov and the deputy chairman of Musavat Party Tofig Yagublu.

At the hearing presided over by judge Ali Seyfaliyev, the court rejected the appeal.

They had filed the cassation appeal against the judgment of Shaki Court of Appeal. They asked the court terminate the judgment and release Ilgar Mammadov.

In October 2015, the Supreme Court partially upheld their cassation appeal filed in accordance with the judgements of the European Court of Human Rights and The Committee of Ministers of European Council. The decision of Shaki Court of Appeal on the case of Ilgar Mammadov and Tofig Yagublu was cancelled and the case was sent to Shaki Court of Appeal for reconsideration.

In April, 2016, Shaki Court of Appeal again held a hearing on the case and rejected the petitions for the acquittal of Ilgar Mammadov and Tofig Yagublu.

Shaki Court of Grave Crimes sentenced Ilgar Mammadov to 7 years and Tofig Yagublu 5 years in prison. Shaki Court of Appeal rejected the appeal against the judgment. Then they filed a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court.

Ilgar Mammadov and Tofig Yagublu were arrested over the events in Azerbaijan's Ismayilli district on January 23, 2013. Tofig Yagublu was released in March under the presidential pardon order.
