Court to send appeal to Azerbaijani president to strip Akif Chovdarov of general rank

An appeal will be sent to Azerbaijan’s president to strip Major General Akif Chovdarov, former head of the main energy and transport security directorate under the liquidated Ministry of National Security, of his rank.

A relevant decision was made at the trial chaired by Baku Military Court chairman Habib Hasanov on October 30, APA reported.

According to the court verdict, Akif Chovdarov was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Other accused persons – Colonel Salim Mammadov, former employee of the main energy and transport security directorate under the liquidated Ministry of National Security, was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment, and former officials Akif Aliyev and Orkhan Osmanov to 5 and 4 years in prison respectively.
