In a joint operation against illegal migration, the Azerbaijani State Migration Service and the State Border Service have detained five Sri Lanka citizens.

The investigation revealed that citizens of Sri Lanka arrived in Azerbaijan in order to illegally travel to Europe via the Azerbaijan-Iran-Turkey route, the State Migration Service told APA.

It became clear that the arrival of these people to Europe had been organized by a transnational group made up of individuals in France (Sangal), Turkey (Usmandar) and Iran (Zaki). For this purpose, Azerbaijani citizen Iltimas Aliyev first placed the Sri Lanka citizens in Baku at the request of Zaki. Later on, the foreigners were detained while being transported to Yardimli district to illegally cross the state border.

The necessary actions are underway to deport the detainees from Azerbaijan.
