Above 2,000 crimes are solved in Azerbaijan every year, Interior Minister Colonel General Ramil Usubov said on Monday.

He made the remarks at an event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani police and July 2 – Police Day, APA reported.

The minister said that as a result of the measures taken, cases of violations of human rights and freedoms, as well as facts of corruption and other negative facts have significantly reduced.

Over the past 15 years, the number of crimes committed in Azerbaijan, as well as intentional inflictions of grievous bodily harm, thefts and hooliganism was less than in most European countries, Usubov noted.

According to the minister, more than 48,000 wanted people have detained over the past 15 years. Usubov emphasized that on average 87% of committed crimes are solved.

“Approximately 88% of the registered crimes did not entail any serious consequences and are of minor gravity,” he added.
