A driver who fled the scene after a fatal road accident in Baku’s Binagadi settlement on June 12 has been arrested.

Two persons died after a Range Rover collided with a Ford in the Binagadi settlement on June 12. The victims have been identified as Rahib Aliyev, the driver of the Ford, and his passenger.

According to witnesses, the driver of the Range Rover, who was slightly injured in the crash, fled the scene after removing the car’s license plates.

To clarify the identity of the driver who fled the scene after the fatal road accident, which is widely reported in the media, APA has sent an inquiry to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Interior Ministry spokesman Ehsan Zahidov told APA that the driver who fled the scene has already been identified and detained.

“Unfortunately, two persons died as a result of this severe road accident. The driver of the Range Rover left the scene before the arrival of police officers. Despite all this, investigative measures were successful. The driver of the Range Rover has been identified as police sergeant Khayal Mammadov, an employee of the Absheron District Police Office. He has already been detained and sentenced to pretrial detention. A criminal case filed by the Binagadi District Police Office has been transferred to the district Prosecutor’s Office,” the spokesman said.
