The Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Committee issued a joint statement in connection with the attack on Ganja Governor Elmar Veliyev.
July 3, 2018 at about 20.30 the head of the Ganja Executiv Power Elmar Veliyev and his guard Gasim Ashbazov were hospitalized with wounds of various degrees as a result of an armed attack by an unknown person, APA reports.
Says joint statement of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Committee.
According to the report, Ganja resident Yunis Safarov, born in 1983, was promptly detained and disarmed by police officers on duty at the site.
In fact, a criminal case was initiated under articles 29, 120.2.3, 120.2.7 (deliberate attempt to kill the victim in connection with the performance of this person's official activity or public duty) and 228 (illegal acquisition of firearms), an operational investigation team was established from experienced prosecutors, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Committee.
At present, the injured Elmar Veliyev and Gasym Ashbazov are provided with qualified medical care, their condition is assessed as satisfactory.
In the framework of the criminal case, investigative actions and operational-investigative measures are continuing, the results of which will be provided with additional information.
The carried out measures are taken under the personal control of the President of Azerbaijan.
