Azerbaijani tomatoes should be exported not only in one direction but also to many directions, Head of the EU Delegation Kestutis Jankauskas told APA-Economics.

“For example, Azerbaijan is very successful in hazelnut exports and several European countries are included in the export market of the country. In order to apply this practice in tomato exports, the quality should be strictly controlled. The control system for hazelnut export is excellent. Of course, if the same level control is applied to tomato and other fruits and vegetables, their export to the EU can be implemented. Azerbaijani tomatoes should be in European markets,” the ambassador noted.

K. Yankauskas added that currently, EU has several projects in Azerbaijan which assist in phytosanitary inspections and cooperate with these organizations, and the program that supports socio-economic development of Lankaran region.
Moreover, the EU official noted that Azerbaijan has great potential for the supply of hazelnuts and tomatoes to Europe and while other markets are volatile, the EU is a sustainable export market.
