One person was rescued and five others were missing, after a U.S. Navy helicopter crashed into the sea off the coast of San Diego, California, on Tuesday, APA reports citing the Sun.

The U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet said in a statement that search and rescue operations were continuing "with multiple Coast Guard and Navy air and surface assets" following the crash.

The MH-60S helicopter "embarked aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72)" and was conducting routine flight operations some 60 nautical miles from San Diego about 4:30 p.m. local time when the crash happened, per the tweet.

It was not immediately clear how many people were on board. The Defense Department did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.
