The US Treasury has announced that it is introducing sanctions against 17 individuals and 29 entities from several countries linked to Ventspils Freeport's Authority and Development Agency, the Latvia-based Business Development Association as well as the Latvian Transit Business Association, APA reports citing Sputnik.
The sanctions were implemented under the Global Magnitsky Sanctions Act, which enables the US government to impose economic measures against those entities and individuals it finds complicit in violating human rights.
