The Democratic National Committee expressed gratitude for the US Capitol Police after officers arrested a man for illegally carrying weapons near the DNC headquarters in Washington, APA reports citing The Guardian.

“We are thankful for Capitol police containing this threat, and can’t comment further on the specifics of this ongoing investigation,” Sam Cornale, the DNC executive director, said in a statement.

“DNC employees are real human beings who fight tirelessly for a better America, and their safety, security, and well-being - physical, mental and emotional - are the top priorities of DNC leadership. This suspect’s apparent views are despicable, and violence and white supremacy have no place in our country.”

According to a source familiar with the situation, there is currently no indication that the incident is “related to any particular interest in the DNC”.

The USCP previously said it was unclear whether the man who was arrested, identified as 44-year-old Donald Craighead of Oceanside, California, had been planning to attend the Saturday rally in support of Capitol insurrectionists.
