A positive COVID-19 test will keep goalkeeper Zack Steffen from traveling with the U.S. men's national soccer team to Honduras for a World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday, APA reports citing USA Today.
He will be replaced on the U.S. roster by Sean Johnson.
Steffen initially tested positive last week and, following a quarantine period, his positive was confirmed on Sunday, U.S. Soccer announced in a news release. One other member of the U.S. delegation also has tested positive and is following the same protocol.
Steffen, who also plays for Manchester City in the EPL, had already been ruled out of Sunday's USMNT match against Canada in Nashville due to back spasms.
Steffen becomes the second U.S. star to miss time due to COVID-19. Christian Pulisic tested positive on Aug. 18 and was forced to sit out the team's opening qualifier on Thursday.
The inexperienced American squad, under coach Gregg Berhalter, is trying to make it back into the World Cup draw after failing to qualify for the 2018 tournament.
