Number of coronavirus cases in Kazakhstan reaches 670

Eight new patients were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus infection in Kazakhstan on Monday night, bringing the overall number of confirmed cases to 670, the country’s health ministry said on Tuesday, APA reports citing TASS.

The majority of cases was reported in the country’s two largest cities - the capital Nur-Sultan (222) and former capital Almaty (119). The Kyzylorda region in another hotbed of infection, with 54 confirmed cases.

By now, 46 people have recovered and six died.

On March 15, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered a state of emergency in the country until April 15 to contain the deadly disease. Additional decisions were made to impose quarantines in Nur-Sultan and Almaty starting from March 19. Later, the Kazakh leader ordered quarantine measures be toughened in all regions of the republic.
