Death toll in northeast China explosion climbs to three

The number of fatalities following an explosion in Shenyang (Liaoning Province) in northeastern China on Thursday has increased to three people, according to a statement by the municipal authorities of Heping urban district, APA reports citing TASS.

"To date, three fatalities have been reported, about 30 people sustained injuries. The injured have been hospitalized," the document said. Earlier, one fatality was reported.

The explosion occurred on Thursday morning at 08:20 local time (03:20 Moscow time). According to China Central Television, the blast took place in one of the restaurants. Several buildings and vehicles were damaged in the explosion. A dashcam footage released online shows smoke gushing from the building and people running away.

According to preliminary data, the explosion was caused by a gas leak.
