Flood death toll hits 81 in Turkey, more than 30 missing-UPDATED

The number of people killed in floods that devastated Turkey’s Black Sea provinces climbed to 81 on Friday, APA reports citing Daily Sabah.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced that 70 people were killed in Kastamonu province, nine in Sinop and one in Bartın. Media outlets reported that the search was underway for at least 34 people who were reported missing by their families.

The death toll from floods in Turkey's Black Sea region has risen to 79, authorities said Friday, APA reports citing Anadolu Agency.

Heavy rain hit the region in the north of the country last Wednesday, leaving 69 people dead in the province of Kastamonu, said a statement by the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency.

Nine others died in the Sinop province, along with one person in the Bartin province.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last Friday visited the worst-hit flood area in Bozkurt, Kastamonu, and announced that places affected had been declared disaster zones and are slated for government aid.
