A total of 626 people, including 228 Indians and 77 Afghan nationals belonging to the Sikh community, have been evacuated so far from Afghanistan, Indian Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday, APA reports citing Xinhua.

Among those evacuated are a large number of Afghan nationals.

"Arrangements are being made to evacuate more people from there who are willing to leave Afghanistan," Puri said, adding that "we are in touch with authorities there."

As many as 78 people, including Indians belonging to the Sikh community and some Afghan citizens, were brought back on Tuesday from Dushanbe, a day after they were evacuated from Afghanistan's capital Kabul to the Tajik city, said media reports.

Those brought back during the day were airlifted from Kabul to Dushanbe by a military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday.

Puri personally received the evacuees at the Delhi Airport.

Earlier on Monday India had brought back as many as 146 of its nationals by four different flights from Doha, days after they were evacuated from Afghanistan.
