Baku – APA. Azerbaijani and Russian law-enforcement authorities have launched a joint cross-border operation called “Border-Shield”.
The operation, which is taking place on the basis of a joint agreement between Azerbaijan and Russia, aims to counter transnational organized crime, illegal migration and the smuggling of drugs and weapons along the border areas between the two countries, Azerbaijan’s law-enforcement authorities told APA on Nov. 21.
The operation will continue till November 27.
Special police posts have been set up in Azerbaijan’s Khachmaz and Gusar districts, bordering with Russia, locals reported. Police officers are checking cars entering and leaving the districts.
