Total electricity power generation capacity to reach 7,352 MW in Azerbaijan next year

There is a potential of 20.04 thousand MW of solar and 3 thousand MW of wind energy in Azerbaijan, said the Deputy Head of the Energy Department of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan Republic Vusal Musayev during his speech at the “Caspian Technical Conference” held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, Azerbaijan has great potential for alternative and renewable energy sources and active work is being done to improve this sphere.

Azerbaijan's total electric power generation capacity is 7,146 MW, of which 5,870.9 MW (82.15%) is shared by thermal power plants. The remaining 1109.5 MW (15.5%) of large water, 66 MW (0.92%) of wind, 24.96 MW (0.36%) of small water, and 39 MW (0.54%) of running on a biomass database and 37.165 MW (0.53%) belongs to solar power plants, said V. Musayev.

Mr. Musayev also noted that the total electric power generation capacity of Azerbaijan will be increased to 7,352 MW in 2020.
