President: Azerbaijanâ€™s rapid economic and industrial development needs new technologies

‘This is the first visit of Italian President to Azerbaijan. This is a historical visit. Thank you for accepting my invitation. I’m sure that this visit will be successful and Italy-Azerbaijan relations will develop more successfully. Our relations cover many fields. At today’s meeting, we discussed many issues, including regional development and regional security, EU-Azerbaijan links, political and economic bilateral links and I can say that we share same position in all fields’, President Ilham Aliyev said at the briefing held after meeting with the Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

‘We discussed EU-Azerbaijan links. Italy has positive role and position on these issues. I hope EU and Azerbaijan will sign new agreement. Works on the agreement are underway and we signed declaration of strategic cooperation with EU members. Such declarations were signed with nine countries, including Italy. In 2014 Italy and Azerbaijan adopted a declaration of strategic cooperation. This document shows our attitude to each other and future cooperation. As for bilateral relations, I’d like to note that we have high political relations. Italy is the first trade partner for Azerbaijan, we have good cooperation in energy field. I’m sure that this cooperation will deepen in the future. Azerbaijan is successfully carrying out the Southern Gas Corridor jointly with partnering countries. Its official opening ceremony was held in Baku this year. TANAP was launched in Eskishehir. The works are carried out successfully and play important role for EU-Azerbaijan relations’, he said.

Aliyev noted that Italian companies operate in Azerbaijan: ‘Italian company actively participated in the construction of polymer plant which will be launched today. All doors in Azerbaijan are open for Italian companies. They have high technology. Meetings, Italy-Azerbaijan business forum, which will be held tomorrow, will open new opportunities. We’d like to bring such technologies from friend countries. We also discussed cooperation in culture and education. Azerbaijan and Italy are reliable partners for each other. I’m sure that this visit will contribute to our relations’.
