Baku. Agshin Rafigoglu – APA-Economics. Turkey and its neighbours have potential in renewable energy sphere. However, neighbouring countries cannot use this potential, except Turkey, Fatih Birol, the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) said.

According to him, Turkey may be a regional leader for its professionalism and technological advantage. Birol forecasted that the share of renewable energy in global energy market will increase and costs for production of this type of energy will reduce.

The Executive Director added that Turkey’s support to several large projects in renewable energy sources is very important: “I think this will turn Turkey into a leader. Germany is already exporting its experience to the neighbour countries in this sphere. Turkey must benefit from such opportunities. Turkey’s leadership is too important”.

He noted that 60% of energy is expected to be got from renewable energy sources by 2040.
