First plenary meeting has been held within the framework of the second Summit of World Religious Leaders, APA reports.

The moderator of the meeting Ali Ahmadov, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the II Baku Summit, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, stated that holding the aforementioned event is already a tradition.

According to him, despite 20 % of Azerbaijani lands are occupied by the neighbor Armenia and as a result of the occupation more than one million Azerbaijanis become internally displaced people, Azerbaijan always differs with its religion and philosophy of racial tolerance.

The Prime Minister stated that currently, the number of various kinds of wars and confrontations are increasing: “This situation sets new tasks for religious leaders. I consider that the Baku Summit of World Religious Leaders is becoming a platform that will address the problems that concern millions of people around the world.”

Then delivering a speech, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Ángel Moratinos noted that currently religious leaders and religious organizations have an important role in the world: “It is not a secret to anyone that, the religion has become a tool in the hands of terrorists. Therefore we should actively cooperate with religious bodies. The religious leaders should express their opinion on the settlement of conflicts. At the same time religious leaders should make an appeal for peace building.”

The head of Turkey’s Religious Affairs (Diyanet) Ali Erbas noted that there should be a fight against the propaganda of terrorism through religion: “We, religious leaders should implement joint works regarding this.”

On the sidelines of the plenary meeting the movie “Besheri Chaghirish” (Global challenge) has been demonstrated.

The plenary meeting has ended with speeches.
