Baku – APA. Chairman of Russia's Islamic Committee, philosopher and theologian Heydar Jemal died aged 70 on the night of December 5th, reads a message posted on the deceased’s pages on social networks.
No further details are available about his death.
Heydar Jemal was born on November 6, 1947 in Moscow. Russia's Islamic Committee, which he chaired, was created in 1990s. The theologian had repeatedly made ambiguous statements, in particular, indirectly endorsing suicide bombings.
He was one of the founders of the Islamic Revival Party which operated in 1990-1994.
Heydar Jemal was the author of several books.
