Some mullahs are involved in racketing in Azerbaijan, Mubariz Gurbanli, chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations, told a press conference on the 2016 annual results.
He noted that the media often presents the dispute of some, who introduce themselves as mullahs, as a dispute among religious figures.
“This is wrong. If you investigate, you will see that those who dispute in graveyard are not permitted to be mullah. They introduce themselves as mullahs. Those people are involved in racketeering. Those mullahs discredit true religious figures as journalists-racketeers discredit the media,” the committee chairman added.
