Sergey Markov: “Khojaly genocide committed for very exact and clear political purpose”

“Khojaly tragedy had been committed by Armenian nationalist military units in an organized manner. The purpose was to carry out ethnic cleansing in Khojaly town of Azerbaijan,” Sergei Markov, director of the Institute for political studies of Russia, well known Russian political scientist told APA’s Moscow correspondent.

According to him, the events committed in Khojaly on the night of February 25 to 26 is an act of genocide: “ It does not have another name. This brutal, bloody crime was committed in order to expel the Azerbaijani population from Nagorno Garabagh and to occupy those territories. Khojaly tragedy is a very well organized genocide. This genocide act had a very exact and clear political goal.”

Russian political expert has also remembered his participation in Khojaly rally in Baku last year: “As a part of the Russian delegation, we participated in peaceful Khojaly rally in Baku. That rally made a great impression on me. We were admired by Azerbaijani people’s assessment of this incident without hysteria.”
