“95% of historical and cultural monuments belonging to Azerbaijanis in Karabakh and surrounding areas were destroyed during the period of Armenian occupation,” said Minister of Culture Anar Karimov in his interview with Anadolu Agency.

The minister noted that resources in the region, historical and cultural monuments, even cemeteries subjected to big destructions during the occupation period: “It is a war crime and crime against humanity. Along with Armenia’s “ethnic cleansing” policy against Azerbaijan, the cultural cleansing policy also continued during 30 years. Their purposes were clear. They wanted to erase signs of Azerbaijanis, who were living there for hundreds of years. They did it by destroying the historical and cultural monuments of Azerbaijan systematically. There were 706 historical and cultural monuments, registered in occupied territories. 95% of these monuments were destroyed during occupation.”

A.Karimov has also touched upon Armenians' attitude towards mosques: 'Although they have destroyed settlements but remained some mosques. They kept pigs there. They have done this in order to insult the religious beliefs of the Azerbaijani people. We see this as humiliation not only against Azerbaijan but also the whole Islamic world.
