Azerbaijan's boxing team wins 7 medals at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games

Today, boxing competitions at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku has completed, APA reports quoting Apasport.


Six representatives of Azerbaijan fought for the gold medal. Of these, three won gold, four silver medals.

President of the Azerbaijani Boxing Federation Kemaleddin Heydarov presented the medal to champion Teymur Mammadov.

60 kg

The representative of our country in this weight category Javid Chelebiev held the decisive battle. Our world champion, who defeated Sultan Zaurbay (Kazakhstan), fought for the gold medal with Iraqi Ammar Karbalai. Chelebiev was much stronger and this opponent (5: 0) and became our first boxer to win a gold medal.

Tamerlan Abdullayev captured a silver medal after losing to Uzbek Bobo-Usmon Baturov in the men's 69 kg class final.

75kg

Kamran Shahsuvarli finished second after losing 5-0 to Kazakh Tursynbay Kulahmet in the men`s 75kg final bout. Cameroonian Wilfred Dieudonne Seyi Ntsengue and Moroccan Youness Gharroumi clinched bronze medals.

81kg

Azerbaijan`s third boxing silver came from Rauf Rahimov who lost to Turkmenistan`s Arslanbek Achilov in the men`s 81kg final.

91kg

Boxer Teymur Mammadov secured Azerbaijan`s 55th gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games as he triumphed in the men's heavy 91kg event.

Magomedrasul Majidov bagged Azerbaijan`s third boxing gold medal as he climbed on to the highest platform of the winner`s rostrum in the +91kg division.
