No one can force observers, journalists to leave polling stations: Azerbaijani CEC

No one can force observers and journalists to leave polling stations, Mazahir Panahov, chairman of Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC), said on Wednesday, APA reports.

“Everyone can contact the CEC and the commission’s hotline on any matter,” said Panahov, noting that the rights of every citizen must be ensured during the voting.

“The polling stations will be closed after the last voter leaves. The polling stations are to close down at 19:00,” the CEC chairman added.

Voting in Azerbaijan’s presidential election started at 08:00.

Eight candidates are participating in the election. Six candidates were nominated from political parties, one is self-nominated, and one candidate nominated from the Initiative Group.

Also, web cameras were installed in 1,000 polling stations in 119 electoral districts.

Moreover, 894 international (61 organizations, 59 countries) and 58,175 local observers monitor the election.

The voting will end at 19:00.
