The Iraqi government should decide upon sending home the Azerbaijani children found in territories freed from ISIL, Azerbaijan’s charge d'Affaires in Iraq Ramiz Gafarov told APA.

“We are waiting for a decision of the Iraqi government on sending the Azerbaijani children home from Baghdad,” Gafarov said noting that the necessary work is underway with relevant bodies in this regard, and a political decision should be taken soon.

The diplomat said the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iraq continue to conduct official correspondence in connection with the children freed from ISIL and their parents. “The Iraqi government should take a decision on sending them to Azerbaijan.”

Gafarov went on to say that efforts are being made to ensure the return home of other orphaned children who were found in Baghdad and are believed to have been Azerbaijanis.

“We have officially appealed to the Iraqi government in this regard. Some of them are babies and can not speak. There are those who do not have passports, so there are some difficulties. There are some children who are with their parents who have been accommodated in camps. Those who are not with there are being sheltered in an orphans' asylum. All conditions have been created for them,” the diplomat said.
