"The statement signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, prime minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on November 26 in Sochi confirms that Azerbaijan reaches its goals", the Chairman of the Defense, Security, and Anti-corruption Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov told APA.

Z. Asgarov notes that in accordance with the statement, the parties will take steps to increase the level of stability and security on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, and a bilateral Commission will be created on the delimitation of the state border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia with its subsequent demarcation with the consultative assistance of the Russian Federation at the request of the parties: “Russia, being in a consultative role, has made a call on delimitation and demarcation of the borders. Russian President has noted while delivering a speech regarding the results of a trilateral meeting held in Sochi that mechanisms of delimitation and demarcation of the borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be created till the end of this year. And these meet Azerbaijan’s interests. Because after 44 days of war and Azerbaijan’s Victory, one of the important issues is the delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. As Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev noted in the trilateral meeting, Azerbaijan has repeatedly announced its readiness to start the delimitation process without delay. It has been clearly proposed to the Armenian side that let’s start work on the peace agreement in order to put an end to the confrontation, recognize territorial integrity and sovereignty of each other, and encourage to live as neighbors again in the future. From this point of view, an agreement that was reached in the Sochi meeting, on the creation of delimitation and demarcation mechanisms of the borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia till the end of this year is an important step in the direction of the establishment of lasting peace between the two states and peoples, and agreements reached, signed statement are another great success of the President Ilham Aliyev at the diplomatic level. On the other hand, not reflecting the expression of Karabakh, not touching on the issue of captives or hostages, which the Armenian side always claims is a reflection of Azerbaijan’s righteous and resolute position in the statement.

The committee chair of the parliament noted that the activities of the Trilateral Working Group established in accordance with the statement of 11 January 2021 under the joint chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, and the Russian Federation to unblock all economic and transport communications in the region are positively assessed in the statement signed in Sochi, and the need to launch, as soon as possible, specific projects in order to unlock the economic potential of the region is noted: “In accordance with the trilateral statement dated November 10, 2020, not opening of communication – the Zangazur corridor between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan so far is one of the unfulfilled issues. President Ilham Aliyev has drawn attention to this issue once more in the trilateral meeting held in Sochi. After the trilateral meeting, the Russian President noted that they have very thoroughly talked about the economic issues, development of the economic relations, and talked about the opening of the transport corridors as the first step. This includes both railway and highways. Vladimir Putin expressing his gratitude to the Azerbaijani, Russian, and Armenian deputy prime ministers, who are working on this issue for a long time, has announced that next week, deputy prime ministers of 3 countries will meet in Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin's repeated use of the term "corridor" in his statement to the press shows that Russia supports the Zangazur corridor project. All of these reaffirm that the opening of the Zangazur corridor is inevitable and Armenia already agrees with this. In short, Azerbaijan has reached its goals in the Sochi meeting. Position of the Azerbaijani President was reflected in the statement without any conditions”.
