The figure set a new all-time high during the day on Sunday, with 286.5 cases seen per 100,000 inhabitants, data compiled by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) showed.
The country's death toll reached 99,124 in the meantime, as another 62 fatalities were attributed to the virus, while the number of nationwide infections increased by 30,643 to 5,385,585.
