Specialists who visited the ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili in prison revealed a serious brain disease, due to which the politician is likely to develop a coma with a possible fatal outcome. This was stated on November 19 in a statement by the Office of the Ombudsman Nino Lomjaria, APA reports.

“One of the predicted clinical exacerbations of Mikhail Saakashvili happened yesterday. Having learned about the difficult situation, the members of the expert group confirmed the need for the immediate transfer of Mikhail Saakashvili to a high-tech hospital. Although a group of specialists created by the Public Defender, in a report dated November 17, assessed the patient’s condition as critical and serious, because of ignoring the recommendations, Mikheil Saakashvili developed one of the most serious complications – Wernicke’s encephalopathy, ”the ombudsman’s office said.

The statement says that an MRI scan is required to fully assess focal processes in the brain.
