The European Commission announced on Wednesday its plans to proceed with "a once-in-a-generation opportunity to design a new transatlantic agenda for global cooperation" with the United States, APA reports citing Teletrader.

There are four "key challenges" highlighted in this joint action proposal, concerning global cooperation in response to pandemics, environmental protection and biodiversity heritage, partnership in digital governance and technology, and the promotion of democratic values and human rights. The Commission invited the European Council to "endorse this outline and proposed first steps as a roadmap for a new transatlantic agenda", ahead of the EU-US Summit set to take place in the first half of 2021.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that "when the transatlantic partnership is strong, the EU and the US are both stronger," and urged for the new agenda to be discussed as soon as possible.
