United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday that there are "real signs" the country is "passing through the peak" of the coronavirus, but warned that Britain cannot risk a "second spike" in infections by lifting lockdown measures too early, APA reports citing Breaking the News.

As he returned to work for the first time after recovering from COVID-19, Johnson noted he understands the private sector's frustration with shutdowns but asked them to "contain their impatience" a little longer as the first phase is coming to an end soon.

The prime minister stressed that the government will rely on science, but will also listen to opinions from businesses and the opposition when deciding on easing restrictions. "We simply cannot spell out now how fast or slow, or even when, those changes will be made," Johnson added.
