Germany's federal government announced on Wednesday that it plans to give €400 million in emergency aid to those affected by the floods, with half of that money coming from the federal government's budget and half of it provided by the states, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The country's finance minister Olaf Scholz stated that the funds are an initial estimate, emphasizing that more funds will be allocated "if necessary." Moreover, he asserted that the money will flow "quickly and unbureaucratically," adding that everyone can rely on it and the focus is on "saving, helping, and doing what is necessary."

The death toll from the floods has been revised to now stand at more than 170 people in Germany alone, with Chancellor Angela Merkel characterizing the damage done by the floods as "shocking."
