New coronavirus-related restrictions have taken effect across Greece on Wednesday, with all nightclubs and bars allowing only seated customers on concerns of fresh COVID-19 outbreak, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The concerns were prompted by the spread of the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant, leading to the new measures which forbid these venues to allow standing customers. While the measure is expected to have a negative effect on the tourism industry, bar owners argue it is necessary to prevent the next outbreak.

Greece reported more than 1,800 new COVID-19 cases in the latest update following a relatively stable June, signaling a new outbreak wave could be coming if appropriate curbs are not implemented on time.
