Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, author of the music of ‘Zorba the Greek’ dies

All the televisions of the world will reproduce today the image of Anthony Quinn dancing the sirtaki in the movie Zorba the Greek. The author of the soundtrack of that unforgettable film was the most famous Greek composer in history, Mikis Theodorakis, that he has passed away at the age of 96, APA reports citing worl-today.

Theodorakis, who in recent years was several times on the verge of death, fHe was reunited at his home in Athens, leaving an enormous musical legacy, not only in Greece.

With its composition in 1964 of the musical band of the film Zorba the Greek starring Anthony Quinn and directed and edited by Michael Cacoyannis, based on the novel Life and Adventures of Alexis Zorbas, from Nikos Kazantzakis, Theodorakis managed to bring Greek popular music to the whole world.

His militancy on the left led him to be arrested and tortured during different black periods of Greek history, to suffer firsthand the consequences of authoritarianism and to be forced into exile.
