Rome’s Fiumicino airport, together with Volocopter, is preparing to launch an electric helicopter to the city center. They want to introduce such a service in 2024, APA reports citing newspaper Il Messaggero.

Volocopter has designed the eco-friendly and quiet VoloCity helicopter, which is reminiscent of the flying machines from the films Blade Runner or The Fifth Element. A flight on such a device will cost 140 euros – only twice as expensive as a similar route by taxi.

It is specified that the flight will take only 10 minutes. Now this project is going through the bureaucratic stages of approval and obtaining permits from the authorities. In 2024, six such air taxis will appear in Rome.
