Vusal Gasimli: "Measures are taken to reduce influence of coronovirus on economy"

The Azerbaijani government takes all necessary measures to reduce impacts of coronavirus crisis, said in a statement Vusal Gasimli, executive director of Economic reforms analysis and communication center of the Azerbaijan Republic while answering the questions related to the topic of impacts on economy of the virus started to spread from China in recent months and bearing the official name of COVID-19, “APA-Economics” reports.

"Azerbaijan is a part of the global economy. All processes occurring at the global scale including the negative trends exert influence on our country. Such sectors as trade, transport, logistics, tourism, etc. are supposed to be affected more. The impacts of the coronavirus on the Azerbaijani economy will depend on the processes going on at the global scale. Therefore the government is taking all necessary measures in order to reduce impacts of the coronavirus crisis. For this purpose, an operative task force has been set up under the Cabinet of Ministers by Mr. President’s instruction", V. Gasimli said.

He also noted that the Azerbaijani government also tries to reduce the influence of this global shock and to leave behind this period by suffering less losses: "Of course, as in the previous outbreaks of Ebola, SARS and other diseases, the scale of spread and the side effects of this virus named as COVID-19 will continue to a certain culmination point. The losses suffered at the global and national level will be compensated after the culmination point. The Azerbaijani government also tries to reduce the influence of this global shock and to leave behind this period by suffering less losses. One of the important conditions for achieving this goal is not to manipulate with the information which is spreading more rapidly than the virus itself because sometimes the panic increases scale of problem by multiple times. Remind that the length of our common border is 765 km with Iran being one of the three countries having recorded the greatest number of the virus contraction cases in the world after China. Especially we should take into consideration that the Gilan region being one of the Iranian provinces experiencing the greatest number of infection cases borders with Azerbaijan. Under such conditions, all citizens should work together along with the government in order to protect health of the Azerbaijani people and to reduce negative impacts on economy. Especially it is a greater fault to demonstrate mercilessness in these times. For instance, the leading businesses of China and the world understanding their social responsibility implement the support activities for solution of the problem. We believe that the Azerbaijani state will also successfully pass this test developed at the global level".
