"Today excises, considered for tobacco and alcohol in Azerbaijan are lower in comparison with the world," Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov said at the meeting of Economic policy, Entrepreneurship and Social Policy Committee of the Milli Majlis on the discussion of the draft law “On the budget package of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022”, APA reports.

Minister noted that another direction, where duties have been increased, is provision of residence documents for foreigners, provision of foreign passports: "There are such duties that have not been reviewed since 2007. I think that it should be reviewed periodically. While 28,876 cars were imported since 2018, more than 53,000 cars were imported in 2020. In nine months of 2021, 63,000 cars have been imported. 60,000 of them are motor cars. It means there is no decrease in the import of cars. Their being old or new cars is a theme of discussion. That is why changes in Tax Code have been considered. Changes, made on law "On state duty" and Tax Code, are laws, including in a budget package. Compromises, suggested for the next year in Tax Code, will decrease tax income in the amount of AZN 50 million in the state budget. If income from duties to state budget increases, decrease is observed in another direction."
