Secretly taken out of Russia on the eve of the revolution, the jewelry of the Romanov family will be put up for auction at Sotheby’s in Europe, APA reports citing Today Nation News.

These are clips with stepped cut sapphires weighing 6.69 and 9.36 carats, framed with diamonds cut “rose”, and the same brooch with a sapphire of 26.80 carats and two rows of diamonds around it.

According to the publication, the jewelry was made around 1900. Their cost is estimated at 300 to 500 thousand dollars (from 21 million to 35.5 million rubles).

According to the material, the jewelry belonged to Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, aunt of Nicholas II. At her request, in 1917 the British antiquarian Albert Henry Stopford transported them from St. Petersburg to London. After that they were inherited by Maria Pavlovna’s daughter, Princess Elena of Greece and Denmark.
