The United States is providing $ 5 million in humanitarian assistance to support the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross and other partner international organizations and non-governmental organizations in assisting people affected by hostilities, says the statement by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo which posted the Facebook page of the US Embassy in Georgia, APA reports.

"With this funding, after the fiscal year 2019, US humanitarian aid to Armenia and Azerbaijan will exceed $ 10 million.

Funding includes nearly $ 3.9 million in assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic for vulnerable migrants, internally displaced persons and the communities hosting them.

The new assistance, provided by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development, will support local efforts to provide food, shelter, medical, or other emergency assistance to people affected by the conflict.

U.S. government humanitarian experts continue to assess the impact of this crisis. We appreciate the contribution of our existing partners in the international community and call on other governments to join this effort with new and growing support."
