Azerbaijani MFA comments on statement of co-chairs

Our position on issues mentioned in the statement of the co-chairs, as well as the latest escalations that occurred on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, the attempt of a saboteur group to commit an act of terrorist and sabotage entering the territories of Azerbaijan, the process of delimitation and demarcation, as well as the provision of humanitarian access to the region have been repeatedly stated in official statements, said the head of the press service of Azerbaijani MFA Leyla Aliyeva, APA reports.

“Azerbaijan has mobilized all of its efforts for restoration of the liberated territories and ensuring peaceful co-existence of people in these areas and implements relevant measures. Cooperation with international humanitarian organizations is being carried out on the basis of principles of international law, as well as relevant steps have been taken in order to provide humanitarian assistance to the people affected by war in Karabakh.

We remind regarding six Armenian servicemen, cited in the statement of co-chairs, that the Armenian servicemen were detained while committing a provocation aimed at the mining of roads. Armenia’s refusal from submitting information on place of mines, in addition, an attempt of planting new mines in the area do not fit into any frame while mines, planted by Armenia, cause danger for the lives of people in the liberated Azerbaijani territories on a daily basis. Thus, co-chairs should, at least, pay attention to the reason for the detention of these persons, call on provocateurs to avoid such kind of activity before suggesting the exchange of the detained persons on the basis of the “all for all” principle.

We declared many times that we are in favor of resolution of the issue of border tension via negotiations, at the same time we support challenges of international community on demarcation and delimitation of border between two countries. As you know, Azerbaijan also supported suggestion of establishment of relevant trilateral commission on delimitation and demarcation of border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which was put forward regarding the issue a while ago.

Only on the basis of strict observance of international law on sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, interstate relations can be normalized, demarcation and delimitation of the border line can begin, and finally a solid foundation for peaceful coexistence can be laid.

The co-Chairs, in their turn, can contribute to peace and development in the region by supporting the implementation of trilateral statements,” the official of MFA emphasized.
