"The Non-Aligned Movement serves on the promotion of human values and demonstrates the commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all countries," the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, İlham Aliyev said at the XVIII Summit of heads of members states and governments of the Non-Aligned Movement which is held in Baku.
Greeting the Summit participants, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the Non-Aligned Movement is the largest political institution in the world after the UN General Assembly, uniting 120 countries: "Azerbaijan has become a member of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2011. During a short period of membership in the Non-Aligned Movement, our country has gained a great reputation in resolutely defending the norms and principles of international law. At the XVII Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Movement Member States in 2016, unanimously made a decision on holding the next Summit in Baku and entrusting chairmanship to Azerbaijan for 2019-2022. This is a manifestation of respect, trust, and confidence in our country."
The President of Azerbaijan expressed gratitude to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement in 2016-2019.
