Bilateral consultations on Caspian Sea held between Azerbaijan and Iran

Bilateral consultations on the issues of the Caspian Sea were held between Azerbaijan and Iran at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan today, APA reports citing Azerbaijani MFA.

Khalaf Khalafov, Deputy FM, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for border and the Caspian Sea issues was represented Azerbaijani side, while Iranian side was represented by Reza Nazar Ahari, Special representative of Iran on Caspian Sea Issues.

During the meeting, discussing the establishment of the Secretariat of the Caspian Sea Framework Convention on environmental protection the sides stressed the importance of launching the Secretariat for the effective implementation of the Convention and noted the importance of the parties of Convention to reach a consensus in this direction on the basis of mutual understanding.

On the sidelines of the consultations, the parties also exchanged views on the date of the next meeting of the High-Level Working Group on the Caspian Sea, as well as on issues including its agenda.

The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
