"Azerbaijan has not applied to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for observer status," Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Bikantov said at a press conference today, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
Russian MFA official said that the CSTO member states are moving towards expanding the organization's openness in the field of information, as well as foreign relations: "The adopted documents allow for the involvement of various interested countries as partners or observers in the activities of the CSTO. Such decisions are known to be made by consensus. Azerbaijan has not yet made such an appeal. We hope that strengthening constructive cooperation with other countries and international structures will help increase confidence in the organization and strengthen the security of the area for which the organization is responsible."
