Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Georgia has issued a statement regarding mass brawl that occurred in Dmanisi city yesterday, the Embassy told APA.
The statement reads: “The embassy immediately reacted to the mass attack to “Omer market” located in Dmanisi city belonging to Azerbaijanis and clashes occurred around it on May 16, 2021. The employees of the Embassy visited the site, got acquainted with the situation and made contact with representatives of law enforcement agencies of Georgia as well as local government. Necessary measures are being conducted within the framework of the legislation of Georgia regarding the incident. In connection with the issue, it should be especially stressed that politicize the mentioned unpleasant event, presenting it as an ethnic confrontation contradicts with the spirit of Azerbaijani-Georgian relations developing at strategical partnership level.
The embassy urges its compatriots not to succumb to any provocations, and to demonstrate political maturity and responsibility. The incident must be assessed on a purely legal level, and those who found guilty must be punished individually in accordance with the Georgian legislation. In order to prevent any negative consequences of this unpleasant event, the permanent contacts will be continued with the relevant bodies of Georgia by the Embassy.
