Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov has today received Liliane Maury Pasquier, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) who is on the visit to Azerbaijan, press service of the Parliament told APA.
Welcoming the guest, the speaker has expressed his confidence that the visit will give impetus to further development of bilateral relations.
He stated that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to deepening comprehensive relations with PACE. Since January 2001, Azerbaijan, as a full member of the Council of Europe, has felt the support of the Council of Europe and its institutions in the process of building a legal and democratic state. A lot of work has been carried out on mutual cooperation over the past period: “Unfortunately, due to some misunderstandings and biased actions of a number of MPs who are lobbying for Armenian goals, we see double standards in the organization. We believe that such unpleasant situations in the future will be eliminated and there will be normal conditions for the exchange of views on issues that can be discussed."
