"Regulation process of Nagorno Karabakh conflict has come to a dead-end until the start of hostilities in the fall of 2020, according to Armenian Cabinet of Ministers, the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a meeting with the Armenian community, APA reports.
"The process has reached to that point that the Armenian party must return 7 regions around the Nagorno-Karabakh and Karabakh should not have any, including an interim status.
The architecture of the Karabakh issue has ended in 1998-1999 years. At the first point, Karabakh withdrew from the negotiation process, so has lost its only status approved by the international community", he noted.
According to Pashinyan, it happened with the initiative of Armenia (Armenian President was Robert Kocharyan at that time – ed.): “This is not only said by me, but also Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov stated in this regard. Secondly, Armenia voted for Istanbul Charter in 1999. This charter means for the solution of the political, ethnic and cultural rights of national minorities within the framework of territorial integrity.”
He stressed that the process of negotiations on Karabakh held once was a "fake".
“Why did the war start in 2020, but not before? We should remember that in 2016, the bell was already rung. Back in January 2016, the Minsk Group co-chairs demanded from Armenia to give up its demand for the interim status for Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia, of course, did not agree with this and in April of 2016, military operations took place.”
N. Pashinyan noted that the only way to prevent military operations was to return the regions around Nagorno-Karabakh without preconditions.
It is clear from Pashinyan’s statements that Azerbaijan has demonstrated adherence to principles over the years and defeated Armenia both in the negotiation process and in the diplomatic level.
