Russian MFA commented on the participation of MPs at march on the occasion of 27th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide held in Baku

"Terrible and bloody Karabakh conflict brought death and torment to innocent people, both to the Azerbaijanis and to Armenians, Russia has always considered it to be a great tragedy and will continue. I would like to state the position of our country on the Karabakh conflict, we will help the sides to find a peaceful solution, and we will continue to focus on this issue in the context of our foreign policy in the region", - Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova said at a briefing today, ONA's Russian Bureau reports.

While answering the question of the journalist representing Armenian media, regarding the participation of Russian MPs at the march held in Baku on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, Maria Zakharova said: "You mentioned that there were Russian deputies and it would be better you to address these questions to the participants of that march".

Note that the Russian delegation that attended the march on the occasion of 27th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide held in Baku, included the Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Relations, the world-famous athlete Irina Rodnina, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Dmitry Saveliev, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Family, Women and Children of the Federal Assembly of the State Duma Oksana Pushkina, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on State Building and legislation Mikhail Emelyanov, State Duma deputies Tatyana Sibizova, Denis Parfenov and Alexei Zhuravlev, director of the Institute for Political Studies of Russia, coordinator of a group of friends of Azerbaijan, well-known political scientist Sergey Markov and head of the CIS department of this institute Alexei Bychkov, military expert, chief editor of the "National Defense" magazine Igor Korotchenko, Russian director, writer Alexander Rusnak, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology and Political Science of the Financial University under the Government of Russia Alexander Shatilov.

Folowing the march, MPs met with President Ilham Aliyev and Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva.

Vardan Toqanyan, Armenian Ambassador to Russia made a statement on participation of Russian deputies at the march on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. He expressed his country's dissatisfaction with the participation of Russian MPs at the march in Baku, which was anti-Armenia and used to undermine trust in the region. The ambassador stressed that they did not understand the solidarity of MPs in Baku and their participation in the anti-Armenian march. Armenian diplomat also requested an explanation from Moscow regarding the issue.
