The 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia was held

The 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov and the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili was held in Baku on September 29, the Cabinet of Ministers told APA.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister A.Asadov said that the Georgian Prime Minister visited Azerbaijan for the second time in a short period of time, describing it as an indicator of the high level of relations between the two countries.

It was noted that the peoples of Azerbaijan and Georgia have lived in friendship and good neighborliness for centuries. It was noted with satisfaction that during the independence period, bilateral relations based on mutual trust and support have successfully developed and reached the level of strategic partnership.

It was noted that an active political dialogue was held between the two countries, and Azerbaijan and Georgia supported each other within international organizations.

They expressed satisfaction with the successful development of bilateral relations in various fields - especially in economic and trade, energy, transport, transit, investment and humanitarian spheres.

Despite the negative impact of the pandemic, trade turnover increased by 41% in the first eight months of this year. It was noted that Azerbaijan is one of Georgia's largest trading partners and the largest investor in the Georgian economy.

Highly appreciating the level of cooperation in the field of energy, it was noted that the joint projects implemented by the two countries serve to strengthen peace and stability in the region. It was noted that these projects played an important role in the transformation of the South Caucasus and changed the energy map of the region. It was noted that the Southern Gas Corridor project has been successfully implemented and is of great importance for the welfare and development of both Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The importance of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in the field of transport and transit was noted. It was noted that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the uninterrupted operation of transport and transit corridors, even in the event of a pandemic. As a result, the volume of cargo transported by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway has increased in the first eight months of this year.

Talking about the new geopolitical and geoeconomic reality created by the liberation of Azerbaijani lands, the Prime Minister stressed that the restoration of the transport and communication system in the region promises great prospects and will be beneficial for all countries in the region, including the Zangazur corridor.

Georgian Prime Minister Garibashvili stressed that his country attaches great importance to strategic partnership with Azerbaijan and intends to further strengthen friendly relations.
The importance of joint projects successfully implemented by Azerbaijan and Georgia was stressed. It was noted that Georgia is interested in further expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in all areas. Irakli Garibashvili noted that Azerbaijan is a leader in Georgia in the field of investment. He stressed Azerbaijan's support for Georgia during the pandemic.

During the meeting, reports on the issues on the agenda were heard, and a wide exchange of views was held. Prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including information technology, agriculture, culture, education and tourism, were also widely discussed.

- Minutes of the 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation;

- "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia on state border checkpoints between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia";

- "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia on cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment";

- "Program on cultural cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia for 2021-2024";

- “Memorandum of Understanding between the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) and LEPL Enterprise Georgia”;

- “Memorandum of Understanding between the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (KOBIA) and LEPL Enterprise Georgia Agency”.
